Alan Sugar, M.D., Chairman
In addition to volunteering his time and expertise as a medical director for the Michigan Eye-Bank, Dr. Sugar also serves as a Board member for Midwest Eye-Banks. Dr. Sugar's areas of specialization include corneal transplantation, cataract and refractive surgery (LASIK, PRK, Intacs, conductive keratoplasty), and management of diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1969; then, in 1974, he completed his residency in Ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his fellowship in Cornea and External Diseases at the University of Florida in 1975.

Shahzad Mian, M.D.
In addition to volunteering his time and expertise as a medical director for the Michigan Eye-Bank, Dr. Sugar also serves as a Board member for Midwest Eye-Banks. Dr. Mian's ophthalmological specialties include corneal transplantation, cataract and refractive surgery (LASIK, IntraLASIK, LASEK, PRK, CK), treatment of diseases and infections of the cornea, amniotic membrane grafts and limbal stem cell transplantation. His research interests include clinical studies in refractive surgery techniques and outcomes, corneal infections and dry eye disease. A 1996 graduate of Emory University, Dr. Mian completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital, Thomas Jefferson University, in 2000. He completed a fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard University, in 2002.
